This week is going to be AMAZING!!! We have Literacy Week, We have the 100th Day of Kindergarten and the one the students have been asking about every day... TOY DAY!! Plus we have an Early Release Day on Wednesday.
Our Resources are on Monday-MUSIC, Tuesday-ART, Thursday-ART and Friday-PE.

ooh Don't forget Report Cards are going home on Monday. Sign and return the slip with the envelope and your child receives a FREE BOOK from me! Also, Permission Slips to the Zoo will be going home. We are able to have lots of Chaperones. So I hope many of you are able to join us. :) We will be eating lunch there, so make sure to fill out the slip and let me know if you want a hot dog or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

MATH
We are beginning our new Module-Number Pairs, Addition and Subtraction. We have been working up to this, so I know the students will do great!
We are starting the module by discussing the different parts that would make the whole groups 4 and 5. For example: 4 can be made by 0 &4, 3 & 1, 2&2. We will draw pictures of the ways the groups look. We will use two different colored cubes to represent the parts and we will make number bonds.

SAXON, SIGHT WORDS, BLENDS & MORE
We will code and read the decodable reader Zip. It will go home with your child, so be on the lookout for it in their folder. We will discuss letter C and the K&C Spelling Rule. See the poster below.
Our Sight Words for the week are: are, their, big & now. **Practice the word ARE. Now that it is introduced, the students will be expected to spell it correctly in their writing.**

Our Blend for the week is CR-= crayon, crab, cry, etc.
Our Word Family is the -AN Family. Remember word families allow the students to get practice with omitting and substituting beginning sounds.

We will also be discussing the beginning and ending sounds for words and pictures. Along with giving thumbs up for words that rhyme and thumbs down for words that don't.

READING & WRITING
During Literacy Week we focus on 1 book all week long. I have chosen the book There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Rose. This week we will discuss the vocabulary in the story, the setting, the main character and the events that happen in the book. The students will get to choose their favorite book and illustrate the setting and main character.
Here is the vocabulary: swallowed, lace, quitter, trim, dandy, garnish & surround
ooh I forgot to mention the most exciting thing!! We will be decorating our classroom door with the setting and our character "Old Lady." The directions were to make the character into a snow person... ours is going to be adorable!! The kids have had some great ideas of what we can do.

In Writing we will be writing about the silliest things to happen in the book and the students will write about the silliest thing to happen in their book.

If you aren't familiar with the story about the Old Lady swallowing a rose, watch this Youtube video!
