Week of September 6

This week our Resources are: Tuesday~P.E., Wednesday~P.E.and Friday~MUSIC. Please make sure your child has sneakers on during our P.E. days. Also, Friday is Patriotic Day. I can't wait to see all the red, white and blue! :) This week Gesler will bring in the Fun Friday Snack for the class.

!!Home Learning!!
On Wednesday your child will be bringing home a Home Learning Packet. I have attached a cover sheet on the front of the packet, but if you have other questions about it please let me know. At the bottom of the cover sheet is your child's i-Ready log in information. You may want to cut the "computer card" off so that the information is always on hand. This summer I went to training for i-Ready and was informed that the program not only works on computer desktops and laptops, but it also works on iPads.

PTA FUNDRAISER
Last week we had a Fundraiser Assembly. The students received an envelope inviting them to participate in the Fundraiser and it mentioned prizes the students could earn for selling items. I know the Fundraiser lasts two weeks, but any other questions you have will need to be directed to PTA.

Math
We are continuing our work on classifying objects, we will work on classifying by quantity: groups of 2, 3 or 4 items. Then we will discuss how a group can be vertical or horizontal, but it doesn't change the amount. Finally we will discuss the different ways to make a group of 4 and 5 by using different colored items. Ex. 2 red and 2 blue squares equal 4. Just like 1 red and 3 blue squares equal 4.  We are continuing to practice counting to 100, recognizing numbers to 10 and writing numbers on our white boards. Enjoy the song below with your child.
* Thank you for reviewing the Problem Sets with your child and completing the Home Learning. If you can't do it the day it goes home, please do it the following evening. :)

Reading
We are completing our Nursery Rhymes Module by reading the story we missed last week The Hare and the Tortoise. (If you would like to read the story, please look at last week's blog post.) We will be completing two assessments this week. One will be on the different Nursery Rhymes; figuring out the characters, discussing different things about the settings. The other test will be on Humpty Dumpty and The Lion and the Mouse. It consists of questions asking about the events that happened at the beginning and the end of the stories. Then there are a few questions about rhyming.
**We have not mastered rhyming and are practicing it often. Practice with your child and do not get frustrated if they have trouble. It is a tricky concept. In Saxon, our instruction is on the letter O. We will discuss how it is a vowel and that vowels have two sounds~ long and short. Then we will discuss how words are made of sentences and we will be counting how many words are in each sentence the students echo.  Continue to review the phonics papers that your child brings home.

Our sight words for this week: purple, pink, to and and.
Here is the slideshow for the sight words:

Writing
We will be working on the animal pictures (we didn't get to it last week). The students may choose to have animals in the ocean, a jungle or even pets in a house. After drawing the animals we will label the animals in the pictures. We will also work on making a class book that has everyone's self portrait. I can't wait to see all the beautiful details the students draw to make their paper look like them!

Science

We discussed the five senses, but we didn't get to the Nature Walk and I don't feel TOUCH got the attention it deserves. So this week we will be discussing touch again.
